Yulie Archontaki was born in Athens and grew up in the narrow streets of Vyronas. She studied in the USA at the Dell’Arte School where she earned her Master’s Degree in Ensemble Based
Physical Theater, on a scholarship. After her graduation, she worked in the performing arts in Los Angeles. In 2016, she created her own company, Fiasco! Physical Theater, and also
collaborated as an actress, puppeteer, and choreographer with theater groups in California, receiving the following awards: ‘The Encore Producers Award 2019’ at the Hollywood Fringe, LA
Stage Alliance’s Ovation Awards 2019 (5 Ovation Awards for the ‘Kaidan Project’), and LA Stage Alliance Ovation Honors 2017 (‘The Wicked Lit 2016’). She has studied classical music, can read
sheet music, and plays piano, guitar, ukulele, and castanets. She also holds a Postgraduate Degree in Architecture from London Metropolitan University and a Flamenco Dance Certificate
(Instructor de Baile Espanol I).
She was a member of ‘The Actors’ Gang’ under the artistic direction of Tim Robbins and was taught by him and Cynthia Ettinger the acting technique ‘The
Style.’ She participated in the Actors’ Gang’s children’s and teenagers’ teaching program as well as in the prison theater program, ‘The Prison Project.’ As an educator, in 2017, she founded the Hellenic Academy Theatre Department, where she taught the Greek language through theater and directed performances tailored to children of Greek descent in the USA. She has taught at recognized educational institutions in America, including Idyllwild Arts Academy, South Coast Repertory Theatre, Pacific Resident Theatre, Chandler School of Music, and Mayfield Senior Conservatory. At Idyllwild Arts Academy she served as a Theater Faculty member and Director of the Children’s Center for the Summer Program.
She has extensive training in clown techniques with Ronlin Foreman from the Lecoq school, Stefan Haves from Cirque du Soleil, and Paola Coleto from the PadovArts Academy. She has also
studied Shadow Theatre, puppet-making, and traditional dances in Bali, and collaborated with Carlos Garcia Estevez from the Manifesto Poetico group on the creation of ‘Spatial Dramaturgy
and the Four Dimensions’ in Paris. She has studied at Ivanna Chubbuck’s school and has appeared on television and the big screen in American and British productions.
Finally, she has written, illustrated, and published two books: ‘The King’s Special Spice’, a fairy tale that lulls children to sleep and awakens adults, written in Greek and English and staged in
2022 under her direction. Her second book, ‘The Diary of a Weird Child’*, was turned into a short animated film, directed by her, and is currently traveling to festivals around the world.
