Yiorgos was born and raised in Athens, Greece. From a very young age there was an interest in Performing Arts, but was too shy (and still remains to this day actually) to express his need to enroll in an acting class or even the school’s choir. However, there had been moments of artistry throughout his growing up, where he took part in English Drama Club, the Christmas’s Nativity, either performing on-stage or helping the production off stage, and off course his other passion that was painting.
When he reached 20 and felt ready to take the next step he started taking singing, dancing and acting classes. And that was it. He was in love. And it wasn’t long until he enrolled for the full 3 year musical theatre course at Professional Musical Theatre Performance school in Athens. He didn’t finish the course as he decided to continue his studies abroad in the UK. First Stop Glasgow, but the need to be at the heart of the theatre world made him audition for Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London. And he got in.
3 years went by, with their ups and downs, but at Trinity Yiorgos was free to be himself and develop just that; how to be the best he can be, and not try to fit into boxes and look like someone else. After graduating he went back home for his summer holidays in Greece, and as it so often happens, as he was preparing to return in the UK, there came an offer to be a part of the first Greek Jukebox Musical. How can someone, fresh out of College say no to that?
He stayed in Athens, made good friends and industry connections, and was completely overwhelmed that his theatre debut was the best it could be. In the summer of 2023 another amazing offer came to be a part of Ancient Greek Tragedy “Oedipus at Colonus” at the Epidaurus Festival in front of an audience of 18.000 people, for two nights only, before embarking on a summer national tour. Only the second time in recent years that this play has been produced. An experience he could never imagine would happen. Since then he has been developing his acting and singing skills, but this time a bit outside the realm of Musical Theatre. Workshops with one of the best CD’s in Athens Lydia Georgana (Imitation Workshop, Filmmakers Focused Workshop etc.), Athens Epidaurus Festival Workshop on the Ancient Greek tragedy “Orestis” and performed our end result on the Small Theatre of Epidaurus. Finally a Masterclass with Greek Actor Director Nikos Karathanos in Opera Directing. Yiorgos is a curious and witty spirit, with a wicked sense of humor, that needs to evolve and learn new things all the time.
P.s. This text was written by Yiorgos himself, as it would be impossible and troublesome for someone to read his mind. It could be funny though.
