Stavros Zalmas, born in Athens in 1958, has graduated from the Athens Drama School of George Theodosiadis in 1985 and has also received intensive contemporary dance training through seminars in New Work with the “Eric Hawkins Dance Company”. In addition, he has attended seminars of vocal production through physical models in New York as well as in Greece with the renowned voice coach Mirka Yemendzakis.
In theater he has been working since 1983 with the most prestigious and acclaimed directors portraying characters from the classical, contemporary and the ancient tragedy repertoire such as “Treplev” from the “Seagull” of Anton Chekhov, “Jerry” from the “Betrayal” of Harold Pinter, and “Agamemnon” from the “Myth of Oresteia” of Aeschylus. In 1986 he meets Dimitris Papaioannou, the creator and director of the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004, and joins the “Edafos Dance Theater Company” as an active member in all the performances at a national and international level until 1994. After that he continues to be cast for leading roles in plays in Athens. In 2012, Stavros Zalmas is assigned the role of Odysseus by Robert Wilson in “Odyssey”, a co-production of the “National Theater of Greece” and the “Piccolo Teatro” of Milan. The performance has a great impact and success resulting in its callback in Milan in 2015 receiving enthusiastic reviews by the critics.
In cinema, he has also collaborated with prominent directors such as Alexis Bistikas, Spiros Karkanevatos and Constantine Giannaris shooting in Greece and London. He starred in “North of Vortex”, a road film across the USA, driving coast to coast via the famous “Route 66”. Stavros Zalmas has won several national and global acting awards such as the Best Actor award at the Thessaloniki National Film Festival, the Best Actor award at the Short Film Festival in Drama, and the international Best Actor award at the same festival.
In addition to theater and cinema, Stavros Zalmas establishes a great presence in television, landing main roles in more than 13 prime-time series such as “Africa”, “Erotas Kleftis”, “Exafanisi”, “Einai Stigmes” and “Aggigma Psychis” for which he receives the award of the most popular actor in drama series.
